Summary: What, if anything did we learn from Enron? Can it be applied to the new wave of Power Generation firms? How will technology play a roll in the deregulation wave? An article from as far back as 2001 in the Wall Street Journal written by some folks at the Manhattan Institute nailed it, in my opinion. Enron was a first round deregulation company, and rather than spelling the end of deregulation, it instead, taught us a lot about power deregulation, and maybe most of all, what not to do, and for God sake stay focused on your core. Enron was a power/paper/plastic/wind turbine/fiber optic/dotcom/commodity trader/Rainbow vacuum cleaner company. OK, I added in the Rainbow part just to make a point.
